Hi Nicolò. What do you do at GenomSys, and what are you currently working on?Nicolo

I am working as software development and test engineer at GenomSys. My responsibility is to design the perfect strategy to deploy unit and regression testing. My approach is: if it’s not tested it’s broken. Our product is CE marked and we are ISO 13485 regulated. This means that, as a test engineer, I have to ensure compliance to the company’s ISO-13485 quality management system.

What is the most significant benefit of MPEG-G, in your opinion? 

In my opinion, the greatest benefit of MPEG-G is standardization. With standardization, I mean building an environment where the same language is spoken. Uniformity and product consistency lead to innovation, benefits to the consumer, reliable quality, and production efficiency.

What is your take on personalized medicine and what role does GenomSys play in that?

Personalized Medicine has a wide range, but given that we are a genomics company, the DNA provides the most customized information about a person. For example, pharmacogenomics, where genetic information can provide insights on any slumbering intolerances for medicine on a highly individual and personalized level. We at GenomSys strive to provide reliable and secure solutions to make personalized medicine, through genomics, a reality.

Genomic data and data privacy challenges. What is, in your opinion, a way to solve this issue?

Data privacy is all about keeping your data safe and private. Everyone should be able to decide which data to share and with whom, even more so regarding genetic data. MPEG-G encrypts all genomic data to enforce privacy rules.

Why did you join GenomSys?

It is an innovative and dynamic company developing cutting-edge technologies and having an extraordinary objective. I do really believe in what we are developing and I am glad to be part of this team.

When you’re not programming at GenomSys, what do you do in your free time?

Hard question since I have a lot of hobbies! I enjoy doing sports, then I like fishing and snowboarding. In the end, I am practicing chess and guitar!

Do you listen to podcasts? What are you currently listening to?

Sure!
I listen to different kinds of podcasts; it depends on the mood. I listen to TED Talks daily, German lessons, and global news podcasts.

Do you have a favorite chromosome and why is this your favorite one?*

My favorite chromosome is the 22. It was the first human chromosome to be fully sequenced. The reason why researchers chose to finish chromosome 22 first was its relatively small and already highly detailed existing information. Therefore the chromosome 22 was a glimpse into the future, seeing the organization of an entire chromosome for the very first time.

What is your favorite base in the DNA (adenine, guanine, cytosine, or thymine)?

My favorite base among all the DNA bases is thymine since it is only present inside DNA. I like the uniqueness of this particular base being only represented as a building block for the plan for all of our individuality.
