Position: Junior/Mid-Level Software Engineer
Location: Milano, Italy (Hybrid: 1-2 days in-office per week)
Start Date: October 1st, 2025
Contract: Permanent contract (6-month probation period), net salary of approximately €2000/month
About GenomSys:
GenomSys SA, a Swiss healthcare company born out of EPFL Lausanne, is at the forefront of genomic data management. We have developed and patented a series of software platform-integrated applications based on the MPEG-G standard, the only ISO standard for genomic data management (MPEG-G ISO/IEC 23092). Our vision is to establish MPEG-G as the PDF for genomic data, with our integrated application platform being the “Adobe Acrobat” for this emerging field.

Role Overview:
We are seeking a talented Junior/Mid-Level Software Engineer to join our team in Milano. In this role, you will be responsible for developing and testing our proprietary software based on the MPEG-G standard. You will work closely with system engineers and our CTO in a remote setting, collaborating effectively within a small, agile team. This position offers a unique opportunity to contribute to groundbreaking genomic data management technology.
Key Responsibilities:
- Develop and test proprietary software aligned with the MPEG-G standard.
- Collaborate directly with system engineers and the CTO to ensure seamless integration and functionality.
- Engage in the continuous improvement of our codebase, primarily written in C++, with opportunities to work with Python and JavaScript.
- Overcome challenges associated with remote teamwork while maintaining strong communication and collaboration.
Required Qualifications:
- Master of Science in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, or a related field (MSc students nearing graduation are also encouraged to apply).
- A couple of years of relevant experience in software engineering, or equivalent experience gained through curricular or extracurricular projects.
- Proficiency in C++.
- Fluency in Italian and at least B2 level English proficiency.
Preferred Skills:
- Knowledge of Python, JavaScript, and Snakemake.
- Experience in bioinformatics and data engineering.
- Strong communication, teamwork, and flexibility skills.
